I did a presentation about journalism to Ms. Kincaid’s 8th grade Journalism class at McCollough Unis School in Dearborn. The students were very excited and well engaged. After my presentation, I gave them an assignment to write an article about what the presentation. Here are their articles:
Journalism Visit
By Saba Albaydany McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson changed my perspective on journalism, when she visited our
classroom at Unis Middle School, on November 18, 2024. Tina made me feel
more comfortable in my writing and stories as a young journalist. I feel like I now know more about it, and can easily share my knowledge with other people thinking of getting into journalism.
She showed us all the different aspects of journalism, and told us about her own experiences with journalism. Nelson has been in journalism for 25 years, and she’s also involved in graphic design. She told us about ethics, and our moral principles
are what matters most.

Nelson’s inspiration is being curious and wanting to find out about things. I noticed how she is an energetic person, and she’s easy to talk to. I noticed how honest and direct she is, and she wanted us to be the same with our writing. She was talking about how fake news can get spread, so it’s very important that our writings are honest, and include true facts. She was also telling us about everything on the
internet, no matter if you deleted it or not, it will still exist on the internet
somewhere.
In conclusion, Tina Nelson really changed the way I think about journalism. She taught me how important it is to be honest and ethical in our writing, and our stories. I loved how her curiosity makes her want to learn more and share that knowledge with others. She gave me more motivation to continue being a
journalist, and made me more interested in it. Overall, she inspired me to stay true to my values and work hard as I continue my own journey in journalism.

By Amar Rajeh McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson came into our 8th-grade journalism class, at Unis Middle School. She came into the classroom happily to talk to us about journalism. After introducing herself to the class, she explained what journalism is and went further into the aspects of being a
journalist. Nelson spoke about what she does and how journalism benefits her job in many different ways. She owns a radio podcast called “In My House” and loves being an entrepreneur.
Nelson attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-D). She told the class that she was nosy, which gave her some opportunities to become a journalist. During her student years at UM-D her career as a photographer started and has affected her big
time. Nelson is a freelance journalist. There are no specific times she has to work, whether it’s day or night. She loves collaborating and working with other people while
doing what she loves.
Nelson talked about the different jobs in journalism and how it brings many
opportunities. She is a motivational person with a great personality. She also said that the easiest part of her job was to work any time she wanted and the hardest part was wondering if she asked enough questions. She shares her descriptions of meeting new
people on her website and talks about how she became a journalist.
She is a sweet person and I learned a lot from her. She is an inspirational journalist and has inspired me to continue to work towards being a better journalist.

Journalism Talk
By Deena Meshrih McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson came to visit our 8th grade Journalism class at Unis Middle School and talked to us about her job as a journalist. Nelson is a freelance media specialist and she has her own internet radio show called “In My House,” which she podcasts on. She does production work, hosts, and is also the producer of “Ask The Messenger.” She also has a website called inmyhouse65.com.
The hardest part of her job, she says, is wondering if she has asked enough questions while interviewing people as a journalist. When she came to our class, she seemed really nice and she started off talking about how lots of jobs contain journalism. She was
really sweet and funny.
After she talked about journalism and her experience, she came up with an idea and she came around the whole entire classroom, asking each and every individual student what they would like to be in the future. She pointed out some jobs that contain
journalism. Some people said reporters, detectives, story writers, and lots of other jobs.
I said I wanted to be a sports reporter.
Something that surprised me about her was when she mentioned that she grew up in a Muslim household and used to wear a hijab.
Overall, she was very sweet and funny. I think she is a great journalist and a very enthusiastic person. I really enjoyed learning about her and hope to see her again to learn more about journalism.

The Special Guest
By Fatima Alhasnawi McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson is a bubbly and positive woman. She has a radio and TV show that is well-made and full of many interesting ideas. In her work life, journalism is a large part of her life, allowing her many opportunities that she enjoys. My 8th grade journalism
class, at Unis Middle School, had the luck to have her come to our class and have her teach us how journalism can be found anywhere.
She came to our class because she grew up with our teacher, Ms. Kincaid, and wanted to share her experience with us students. From what I’ve seen about her is that she’s a sweet, wonderful woman who is a joy to be around. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is someone to trust. She is a smart person who helped the class as a whole understand many things about journalism we haven’t known or understood.
She has caused us to feel a lot of emotions, yet we enjoyed her being around. She might be too loud, but her personality and behavior helped me get comfortable with her.
I view her as someone who is so filled with confidence and is kind to all.
She has allowed us to understand so much more about journalism. From how it can be found in many areas of the world to how sometimes being nosey can help with an article. She helped us understand how journalism is in many jobs even if it might not
seem like it. She also allowed us to fully understand how the information we use must be fact-checked and correct to be used.
She also taught us how even if something were uploaded or deleted, it would be saved permanently on the apps/websites’ data.
In the end, Tina Nelson is a wonderful lady who is amazing in journalism and helped many young people understand how delightful journalism is. It would be a pleasure to have her in my class once again.

JOURNALISM IN 1 DAY
By Hedieh Katip McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson was a guest who came into our 8th-grade journalism class at Unis Middle School. She told us about how journalism changed her life. She mentioned that if you are a nosy person you will be a good journalist since you want to know everything. She works in Detroit and has her own online radio show, “In My House.”
When she was talking to us about everything she would make jokes while she was talking and make us laugh.
She was a fun guest visitor. She was talking about what job we would want to do like a detective, sports writer, or story writer. She taught us that journalism is in every job. She is on TV, and radio, and has a podcast. When you get a job many of them require a
good writer. She also talked about how she was a nosy person, which could lead to her becoming an amazing writer. Journalism works best with a curious person.
She came so she could talk to us about her experience with journalism. I found her to be pretty, kind, and nice to talk to. One interesting fact that we learned about her, is that she was raised in a Muslim household and even wore a scarf like my hijab. After she came to visit, I will take my writing more seriously.
High Energy In Journalism
By Hussein Bazzi McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson is a journalist who has been doing her radio show for 10 years and journalism for 25 years. She even has her own TV show, “Ask The Messengers,” and has hosted it for 6 years. Her radio show is called, “In My House.” She is a very fun person to be around and I love her enthusiasm. She was a student at the University of
Michigan-Dearborn and her area of study was journalism and screen studies.
When she visited my 8th-grade journalism class, I was very excited the whole time she was there because she gave us a lot of good tips on how to write well as a journalist.
Something that I liked about her was that she is a very hard-working woman and very independent. She is very motivational and encouraged me to write better. Did you know Tina was a very nosy person, and that was what made her a journalist? This was one of
the most memorable statements she made while she was speaking to our class.
The way she presented herself to our classroom gave me confidence that I too can speak in front of a crowd, no matter the size. It was also her good energy that she brought into the room that gave me this confidence. I also learned the importance of
asking the right questions that will help to write the facts and not just my own opinion about something.
She made me want to speak out loud in a crowd and bring high positive energy like her.
I’m certain that this is why she has clients that have been working with her for many years.
One thing I noticed about her was that she would not only be a great speaker but she would even try to give us ideas of what she was talking about by making gestures and facial expressions to give us ideas about the topic she was talking about which I thought
was a nice example of a good speaker. Because of Ms. Nelson, I have a better idea of speaking better in a crowd.
Tina’s Visit At Unis Middle School
By Hussein Kassem McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson is a fascinating person to talk to. She came to our 8th grade
journalism to talk about what she does. She is entertaining and always has
something to say. She is a journalist and media specialist. She is a hard
worker when doing her job. She owns multiple companies, such as a radio
show and a TV show.
Her TV show is “Ask The Messengers.” She has had it for over six years!
She loves her job as a media specialist and has several clients. She has inspired many people including me to start a podcast, TV show, or just be
on TV.
Her music podcast is called “In My House” and she also has her own
network, “T. Carlita Network.” She and her workers are always on the move
when making music, videos, and interviews. When she talked to us about her Podcast, she said it was one of her favorite things to do.
When she came in I could feel her energy and excitement. She wanted to
talk to us about journalism and how great it is. She gave the whole class
multiple examples of how people use journalism every single day. For example, she explained that a news reporter and a camera person are both
journalists. This is a good example of a journalist’s duties: they talk,
interview, edit, use photography, and videography to express opinions and
world issues.
To sum it up, I would really like to see her come back for another talk. She
is fun and also a great human being. I hope her Podcasts, TV shows, and
her Network become more successful. I just wanna be as successful as she is now. Thanks for coming, Tina.
Special Guest Tina Nelson
By Idriss Alhariri McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
On November 18, Tina Nelson was a guest in our journalism class. She talked to the 8th grade students. She described her profession, what she does, and how her job affects
others worldwide. Ms. Nelson told us about her influences and how she got into making her radio station and TV show. The class asked her what her biggest influence was, and
she specified that her biggest influence was that she was very “nosy” and liked to know about what happened first. This got her to where she is now, and she met many influential people while pursuing her profession. She has many clients with whom she has worked for many years and gained a great reputation.
Ms. Nelson is a show host and producer for the show “Ask the Messenger.” She is also a reporter who asks influencers and celebrities questions and how they feel about
recent events.
Mrs. Nelson stated that the hardest part of the job was knowing if she asked enough questions. She tries to influence people that she meets with her great personality and tries to get kids into journalism like she did when she was in middle and high school. She participated in journalism in her school years, and she has made it a big part of her profession and her career.
She has her own website where you can view her episodes and listen to her podcast through the website. She shares her journeys with us, how she meets people, and how she became a professional journalist. She also has international guests on her podcasts
from different countries worldwide.
Ms. Nelson has had many experiences meeting people and interacting with them. Interactions are one of her main specialties; it helps make people motivated. She has motivated us as a class, especially me, to start writing, do my own thing, and make it a profession. This is the type of energy a reporter is supposed to have.
Journalist Quick talk
By Iyah Almoamin McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson, a journalist, came to our class at Unis Middle School on November 18, 2024
She talked to us about journalism and how journalism affects us in general.
Nelson told us many things we needed to know and how journalism isn’t just about newspapers anymore. Journalism can help and lead us on a good path for the future.
Journalism takes a lot of time, work, and effort. Journalism is not an easy job, but also takes a lot of work to be successful as a journalist.
She informed us that once you post on the internet, everyone will notice the post. Even if you delete a photo on social media, people can take screenshots or screen record it.
You have to be careful about what you post on social media.
Nelson also told us we need to be more ethical. Being ethical means being honest with yourself and knowing how you are as a person. However, journalism isn’t just writing
newspapers, or getting a book. Journalism teaches you to be more organized and be a very good writer. You can take pictures, interviews, and write stories. Once you take the
time to get to know and understand how journalism works, it turns out to be a fun experience and you can collaborate with others. Journalism affects us as a person because we get many more opportunities in the future.
She also talked about how journalism affects our future and can lead us to good jobs and colleges. Just by that hour of quick talk, I learned a lot from her and realized a lot of importance to journalism.
Being a successful journalist takes a lot of work, time, and effort. I’m so excited to write current stories about what’s happening in the world soon.

Becoming Journalist
By Jenna Shaikzainy McCollough – Unis
November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson visited our 8th grade classroom and talked to us about our
future careers that we could have as a journalist. There are so many
different careers that require forms of journalism.
First, she talked about what she does. She is a busy lady. She has a
podcast, tv show, and a radio show. Although she used to work for
newspapers, she now has her own clients.
Then she brought up a question that was heard many times about can you
really delete things once they are posted. There are so many ways to see
information after it has been “deleted”. People could’ve screen recorded it,
screenshot it, or the app immediately saves it. Deleting isn’t enough, some
things should never be posted. Nelson helped us understand that what we
post follows us beyond college and could ruin our future job opportunities.
She took a journalism class in high school and she said she didn’t know for
sure she was gonna be a journalist. It turns out she not only became a
journalist, she became a multimedia specialist . She studied for this job and
made it.
On her podcast “In My House,” she interviews deejays, producers, and
musicians of techno and house music.
She gave a good speech about our future. There’s many ways you can go
with journalism. Different interesting jobs I learned much from her.
She also taught us more about how things are never “deleted”.
Nelson is a great inspiration to us students. We learned a lot and I can’t
wait until she comes to visit again.
Journalism With Tina Nelson!
By Lana Zaiter McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
On November 18, 2024, at Unis Middle School there was a guest speaker in our 8th grade Journalism class. A freelance journalist, Tina Carlita Nelson, a self-made journalist who does graphic design, runs an internet radio show, works on Ask the Messengers TV Show, and much more. She even has a website, T. Carlita Network.
She has affiliations with the University of Michigan-Dearborn (Alumna) and the American Association for University Women (AAUW). Tina Nelson has been a journalist for at least 25 years and has had her radio show for at least 10 years.

Tina Nelson’s visit to our school was an enlightening experience, the energy she came in with and her words were inspiring. Nelson was very intent on teaching us students, that ethics are crucial in journalism. Tina Nelson stated, “ If I teach you one thing today it will be what ethics means.” Along with her statement about ethics, Nelson also brought up many careers journalism and communication degrees can be used for such as a
career in graphic design, an author, and more. Another point she made was that journalists must be honest, objective, and overall professional, they must have integrity in all situations. According to Nelson good journalists are people who want to know
everything, she states “Nosy people make good journalists.” Journalists share news with people in various ways like news channels, articles, blogs, podcasts, graphic design, etc.
She has explored all of these different avenues using journalism. Imagine what could happen if more people decided to pursue journalism. The world has to get the news to the people. Even, Encyclopedias like the Britannica were written by journalists. We are journalists, and this is just a taste of journalism.
Journalism Talk
By Laya Swaidan McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Tina Nelson attended our 8th grade journalism class at Unis Middle School on November 18, 2024. She talked to us about the concept behind journalism. Nelson has been a journalist for over 25 years. She has a long-running podcast called “In My
House”. She is a freelance journalist which makes her her own boss. She attended the University Of Michigan-Dearborn, where she received a journalism and screen studies
degree. She taught us the importance of being organized, how journalism helps in our future, and how there’s more to journalism than just writing. She also emphasized the need to be more ethical in our lives, especially at the age we are now.
Journalism has a big role in being a strong writer, even if you are not much of a strong writer, that’s what journalism is all about. She also told us about trusting ourselves because, without confidence, you will never be the writer you want to become. Being a
good journalist also involves being productive daily while writing and talking about certain stories.
She also spoke about writing related to social media posts and to keep in mind that if you were to write a story and had false information, realize that the internet keeps the information after they’ve been deleted. Some people screenshot things, keep the picture
or video, and post the false information they found about you and can do whatever they want with the images.
To sum it up, being a journalist is being organized and showing how jobs can include journalism. She has made my thoughts change as she talked about the benefits of being a journalist and how many opportunities there are. While she is also a professional entrepreneur, she also carries great positive energy that comes with her
great enthusiasm. She made me want to know more about the world of journalism.

Tina’s Visit
By Malak Aldura McCollough – Unis November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
I walked into my 8th grade journalism class and saw a guest. My first impression of the guest was that she seemed sweet and nice. She introduced herself as Tina Nelson, she
talked about journalism and its daily importance.
It felt nice to have a guest come to Unis Middle School. Nelson began to explain that anything you have deleted, isn’t deleted. She taught us that people will still see what we post, even if we think it’s erased. She also stated that every job will judge you based on
your writing skills, what you post on social media, and the way you speak.
She then talked more about her job including the positives and negatives. She has a website called, inmyhouse65.com. She works as a freelance writer and media
specialist. She states it has taken her 25 years of experience to get where she is today.
She has an internet radio show called “In My House” and she is also host and producer for a television show called, askthemessengers.org. She also creates graphic designs for aspects of her blog. She says the hardest thing about her job is wondering if she has gathered enough questions from an interview.
Nelson then proceeded to interview each student about which job they would want to have when they grew up. Some people said they want to be detectives, sports reporters, lawyers, and camera operators. I said biologist because working and learning
more about life is very entertaining. We found out that there is some form of journalism in every career.
Overall, she was charming and funny, she was also very mindful and demure. She allowed everyone to ask a question and gave us a sticker, and 2 business cards. I was very lucky to meet her.

On November 18, 2024, Tina Nelson came into Ms. Kincaid’s 8th-grade journalism class to discuss her journalism experience and the benefits of learning more about journalism.
Nelson is a media specialist who discusses current events and does interviews on the internet. She claims that the nosy people make excellent journalists. She also stated that nosy people always want to know what is happening and will dig into information to find out what’s going on.
She has produced her own radio show for the past 10 years and has been a journalist for the past 25 years. She interviews and handles her business professionally. Nelson claims that the hardest part of being a journalist is thinking you need to ask more questions or get more information.
Nelson was a pleasant and informative person for my class. Our class is excited that she chose to mentor us.
She is going to come and bring other professional people to teach us how to take
photos and a lot of important parts of journalism. I am looking forward to seeing her again and excited about learning new things we never heard of before.
Journalism is involved
By Malak Mansour McCollough – Unis
November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid
Journalism is involved with everything in life. On November 18, Tina Nelson, who has been doing journalism for 25 years, came to Unis Middle School. She shared with our 8th grade journalism class how journalism is involved in our lives. She made me think deeply about how important journalism is. She explained how journalists do everything,
like writing newspapers or social media news. Most jobs contain journalism. For
example, a photographer has one of these many types of journalism. Also, doctors, news reporters, podcast owners, engineers, and entrepreneurs use some form of journalistic style of writing within their professions.
She made me realize that my future career is involved with journalism. Knowing what journalism is about and how to be one; will help your future. The trait I see with her is that she is an excellent, strong speaker. When she came into our classroom, she inspired me to continue with journalism. I never really thought of this, but now I do.
Journalism has a huge impact on our lives. Journalism informs, guides, and inspires us, giving us the path to a brighter future. She also stated “I’m nosy!’’ explaining why she is a journalist.
A part of journalism gives people the information they need to make good decisions for themselves and others. Journalists play a massive role in the media. Being a journalist puts you in a position to have the right path in future events. She made a good statement saying how this generation has now relied on AI. For example, chat GPT.
Students now use chat GPT to write essays, get homework done, etc.
Tina Nelson is a confident lady who is a journalist that has led to a bright future. I’m excited to continue with journalism in the future.

On November 18, 2024, we had a special guest, Tina Nelson, a journalist (who has experience for over 25 years), who came to Unis Middle School and came into Ms. Kincaid’s 8th grade journalism class. She talked to us about her experience as a journalist. Nelson is Ms. Kincaid’s friend from high school.
She runs her radio show In My House and is an active host producer on Ask the Messengers. She came into our class to discuss what makes us a journalist. She asked us a question that got me thinking. She asked us, “What makes you a journalist?” She also told us that being a journalist is a job that involves investigating, gathering, and
reporting news and information to the public throughout the media.

She was a guest speaker for our journalism class. Her lecture inspired me to look deeper into the stories that surround us every day and to approach them with curiosity and an open mind. Her lecture on truth and balanced reporting made me realize the
responsibility journalists have in forming public opinions. I appreciated her visit and lecture about being a journalist and she told us that noisy people make awesome journalists. She also told us that “ You always have to think before you write and to always be honest about what you’re writing about.”
Since the visit I can’t wait to tell the world what’s new to discover.
She taught us that a good journalist takes an interest in interesting things to discuss with the world. I learned that a journalist can discuss a topic and get both sides of the story, making you think about what side you truly believe in. I was impressed by the way she spoke to us and felt very confident talking in front of an audience.
Tina Nelson, The Journalist
By Neriman Zughayar McCollough – Unis

Tina Nelson, a journalist, came to our 8th-grade journalism class at Unis Middle School.
She taught us that journalism is not just about writing, it is about other interesting things like taking pictures. Nelson talked about how you could be a journalist and how journalism is all around us.
She has been working in the industry for a long time and was super positive, inspiring, and motivational and she also has a podcast called “In My House.”
When she was talking to us about journalism, I loved the way she would speak to us, she gave me and my class more ideas about journalism. The thoughts I had about journalism were amazing. She talked about how the internet would always keep anything you post. Even after getting the information, it will always be there.
That’s why being a journalist could also have many cautions to the story. Nelson knows how hard it is to be a journalist and she stressed that if you want to achieve being a journalist you
have to know that it’s not just about the words, it’s also about the story behind it.
She was a wonderful guest to have. She took the time to come to our journalism class and talk to us about journalism. She talked about so many interesting opportunities in journalism that I had no idea about. The way she walked in and immediately started to
talk, just gave me that good energy that just never wanted to go away. Learning about what devices could do with stories and being ethical just made me realize that there is
so much to journalism.
Nelson was a wonderful guest and I’m looking forward to seeing her again.

Who is a Journalist?
By Noor Algalham McCollough – Unis
November 18, 2024 / Journalism 2024 Ms. April Kincaid

Tina Nelson visited Unis Middle School with hospitality and cheer. Our 8th grade journalism class was understood by her compassion. Nelson is a freelance journalist in charge of her journalism organization. An organization group that helps people become thinkers, leaders, and journalists like her. She spoke to us on her journey on all the different jobs she does like social media production work and her several clients. The
ways of being a journalist aren’t so common, because you have tons of responsibilities and jobs. A journalist writes in newspapers, magazines, and news for broadcast.
She finds many unique ways to demonstrate journalism behavior by being anything you want. But to be a journalist, you must grow with ethics. It’s important always to know what’s honest and true. Integrity is what makes you a strong, reliable journalist.
Nelson, a media specialist, producer, and host of her weekly internet radio show In My House. Her website produces a lot of social media content. Tina has over 25 years of experience in running journalism.
You can tell when she speaks that she loves inspiring
young journalists, like us, to become official. With enthusiasm in her voice, she encouraged us to consider starting our commercials or websites one day.
Students in our journalism class had many questions to ask her about how complicated her job is. She piqued our curiosity and helped us to appreciate the education we were being taught from our own journalism teacher Ms. Kincaid who also teaches us how to
unlock many different ideas of occupations through journalism.
It is from this type of enthusiasm that reminds us that we can achieve our own goals and at the same time understand how to be direct and positive about our opinions. I was
able to ask her, “about the importance of having a powerful relationship with your team?” and her response was simple, “that having a strong, well-built association group
is important to elaborate with everybody and pass trust around.”
Tina Nelson taught me that it is important to be vigorous and active as a journalist. I can’t wait to impress her with my progress.

has a radio station called www.inmyhouse65.com.
She hosted, produced, video graphed, designed, and photographed all her work as a journalist. She strongly believes that being enthusiastic is very important. The definition of enthusiastic is having or showing intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval.
Tina shows enthusiasm through the way she speaks about her work and the passion she has for journalism. Her show, “ASK THE MESSENGERS,” is about interviewing people within the community.
She started her journey in journalism 25 years ago and began her radio station 10 years ago. She started getting into journalism when she wanted to find out what was
happening around her. Myself and other journalism students at Unis Middle School asked her questions about journalism and the work that she does. She made us laugh when she said, “I’m a very nosy person, that’s a big part of what got me into journalism.”
She is a very influential person who believes if you have a good relationship with your team the better the work will come out. She also stated,” Having a good relationship is
everything to get your work done right.” I believe she made me view journalism differently.
In conclusion, I believe that she has inspired many other journalists, including me to work harder. An inspiring quote that she also stated, “You will always have time to write
and be a journalist. You can even take 10 min out of your day to write.”
If she can do everything that she is doing, then what’s stopping you? I appreciate her visit. She brightened the mood in the room and gave us some helpful advice about journalism.
Check out some of her work and let me know what you think about it, I know I enjoyed it.

Journalism

On November 18, at Unis Middle School, our 8th grade Journalism class had a special guest named Tina Nelson. Nelson is a freelance journalist and media specialist who prepared a presentation on several topics. Journalism was the main subject, and she gave many different tips and rules for journalism. She also talked about her career in journalism and how she was inspired. She even mentioned that social media plays a big role in journalism worldwide.
Social media matters in journalism in many different ways. journalists find information, share news quickly, and use social media to gather updates, connect with sources, and understand what the public thinks about different issues. On social media, anyone can
post and create content. However, the problem with this advantage is that people could make fake news, untrusted links, and more.
Nelson warned us about this and recommended using real sources. Being ethical in your writing as a journalist also matters. Objectivity and accuracy let readers from around the world trust the stories that you post on any platform. Ethics is another issue
that she mentioned in her presentation.
Other than ethics, she talked about the many different jobs you can get from just having a journalism or communication degree. The many jobs she mentioned you can get from
journalism and communication degrees were insane to me. And I recently discovered that my dream job requires a minor journalism degree.
At the end of the presentation, we all asked her questions about her personal experience and tips about journalism. From her experience, curiosity created her inspiration for journalism. When she explained that point I understood what she meant
by “Nosy people always make good journalists.” And another point she talked about was being biased in your reports. When people get news, they want to see different perspectives to judge, and this is where being neutral and objective matters. I appreciated all the effort she put into her presentations and I loved her enthusiastic spirit and I wish she would come as a guest in our class again.

The Aspects Behind a Journalist

Tina Carlita Nelson came into our 8th grade journalism classroom, at Unis Middle School on November 18, 2024. She has lots of energy and hospitality as a guest. She isn’t only a journalist, but also a media specialist, host, and producer. She even runs a radio show, which she has been running for about ten years. Her website is inmyhouse65. She manages to acquire many clients. Along with her job as a host and
producer, a TV show called “Ask the Messengers” comes on every Sunday at 8:00 am EST.
She has been in journalism for a whole 25 years. She is always inspired to know everything happening in the community; that is something to look up to for an upcoming journalist. She makes sure to interview both sides and be objective.

Being objective is key for interviewing so that you don’t seem biased. In her opinion, the hardest part
about interviewing is wondering if she asked enough questions and collected enough information. Journalists must obtain as much information as possible to put everything all together into an article that’ll grab readers’ attention. She must handle business professionally and not fangirl over who she’s interviewing to remain seen as mature.
When she explained how she interviewed, she added some enthusiasm to hold our attention, which was fun for us. She would tell us the one thing that stays constant in
journalism is ethics. In journalism, it’s important to have moral principles and remain honest. We discovered that she isn’t just good at writing, but she can also create graphic designs for aspects of her blog. She encouraged us to express writing along with art so that readers would be hooked and have a visual of our story.
Tina Carlita Nelson brought a fun spirit and welcoming vibe into our classroom, and I looked forward to seeing her again.

After Tina Nelson came to visit our class at Unis Middle School, I became interested in the work that she has done. Nelson is a journalist who runs her radio and TV show, Ask the Messengers. She empowers people with drug, health, and mental health issues around the globe while creating partnerships with specialists in her community to help resolve these issues.
Nelson’s team provides resources for various city, country, and state services for public health needs. They also specialize in but are not limited to, creating programs and helping with resources for COVID-19, mental health, addiction, reckless driving, and domestic abuse. Ask the Messengers is a Detroit-based show that airs every Sunday at 8 am. It serves a large portion of Michigan and is live-streamed globally and shown on the YouTube channel Ask the Messengers TV Show.
Ask the Messengers started in September 2016 as an outreach ministry, conducting weekly meetings for 12-step recovery programs. They interview real people with real stories which inspired me also to want to talk to people about their lives.
Nelson made me feel many emotions and made me want to continue journalism. She gave us a lot of advice about things we weren’t familiar with yet, explaining the different paths journalism can lead you down.
She told us how starting her business made her dreams come true and encouraged us to do the same. It would be nice to have her visit once again to ask her more questions and get more advice.
Talking With Tina

Tina Nelson visited my classmates and I for the first time on November 18, 2024, at Unis Middle School, in Ms. Kincaid’s journalism classroom. Tina spoke about how social media can greatly affect us as individuals. She brought this up to us, as we are a journalism class, and wants us to be aware of why journalism should be important to us.
She wants to show us how to strive as journalists and influence us so that we can show our best work. She has her own podcast called “In My House”, and loves creating music with others. She says collaborating with others is a great opportunity in journalism.
She believes journalism can inspire your creative side. But, you have to remember to be ethical, have integrity, and be original in your work. She mentioned that a good attitude in a workgroup lets you be collaborative. Journalism isn’t just writing but an amazing act that lets you go anywhere. From news reporting to investigation, you can have hundreds of options. I believe a journalist’s story grows sharper when shaped by the voice of experience.
She was a great person to be around. I’m glad I had the opportunity to listen and speak with her. I hope to see her again in her future visits. Her enthusiasm and bright personality motivate and influence me to take great action. I love the way she doesn’t let anything get to her. She makes me feel open-minded and productive. She was able to change interests and motivate people in one sitting. She emphasizes journalism’s true meaning and the importance of its aspects in life.
